Angela Evelyn Bassett (born April 15 1960) is an American actor. She is known for her roles in film and television from the mid-80s onwards, she's won numerous awards such as two Golden Globe Awards and sixteen NAACP Image Awards in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Bassett originates from New York New York. She was born in Winston-Salem North Carolina. When Bassett was five years old the family were moved from the city of St. Petersburg, Florida to live with their mother who was been divorced from her father. Bassett watched the James Earl Jones in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men play when she was at high school and decided that acting is what she would like to be doing. When she graduated at Yale University New Haven Connecticut in 1980 with an undergraduate degree in African American Studies, she went on to earn an MA (1983) from the Yale School of Drama. While at Yale she met Courtney B. Vance a actress who was a friend of hers. They married in 1997. Qualification: B.A. The Yale School of Drama awarded an M.A. in Fine Arts in African American Studies to Angela Bassett in the year. The school she attended was the following schools: Jordan Park elementary school, Disston Middle School for seventh graders, Azalea Middle School for 8th & 9th grades and Boca Ciega High School.
